How to check a stroller harness is reliable

Oct 11, 2023

The five-point harness is composed of three parts: two shoulder belts, two waist belts and one crotch belt. Each strap has a length adjustment function to better suit babies of all ages and protect them more effectively. The five-point safety belt can withstand a certain degree of tension in different directions, and it is not easy to loose or damage, and the adjustable buckle is not easy to slip.

Compared with two-point harness and three-point harness, the five-point harness have a larger and more comprehensive fixed range, perfectly covering the three main parts of the baby's shoulders, waist and legs, and ensure that the shaking range of the head is within a reasonable range through the common force.

So what are the characteristics of reliable stroller harness?

Since we have over 14 years experience in producing accessories for baby products, here are some of the points we suggest to be aware of.

1.The bandwidth of harness is at least 19mm.

If the belts are too narrow, it’s easy to hurt the baby's tender skin. In general, the five-point harness is more effective than the three-point harness to play a protective role, the following picture is a typical five-point harness.

2.Each strap should has a length adjustment function, which can better fit babies of all ages and protect them more effectively to prevent slipping out of the cart.

3.The safety belt must be able to withstand about 15.3 kg of pulling force in different directions. The requirements of the Chinese standard GB 14748 are 150N, equivalent to 15.3 kg, the belt should be not easy to loose or damage, and the adjustable buckle is not easy to slip. Otherwise, if the baby turns or struggles in the stroller, it will be easy to break free, and the harness will be useless.

4.The harness buckle should be easy for the caregiver to operate, but not easy for the baby to release itself.

5.A gap about 25mm is appropriate.

After buckling the harness and adjusting the safety to the appropriate length, the caregiver can use his fingers to measure whether the harness is too tight or too loose, if the gap can put down two fingers (about 25mm ), it means that the length is appropriate.

6.The size of the foot opening should not be greater than 140mm x 76mm.

The size of the foot opening in front of the stroller seat can not be too large, if the opening is larger than the child's torso, then it is easy to cause the child to slip out of the stroller, causing the risk of stuck head, stuck neck or falling.
